Of course this happens on a day when I have no change of clothes for him, and no wipes in his bag. I tore open the package of toilet paper I had in the cart, and tried to clean him up best I could. I flagged down the nearest worker (Italian), and asked for help in cleaning up our mess. He summoned another guy to come help me. I was grateful for the paper towels he offered me, but horrified when he WALKED AWAY and did not come back! I guess he thought I should be able to clean Jake and the floor with the 5 paper towels he gave me. I stood there for the longest time, waiting for him to come back, and he NEVER DID!
I can only imagine the conversation that took place in that aisle after I finally gave up and left the mess, and other people came upon it. I mean seriously! What was I supposed to do with a sick, now dirty and stinky kid, and a basketful of groceries??? So, if you happened upon my mess in the frozen food aisle at the commissary today, I'm sorry! It couldn't be helped!
Looking back, I guess the only good thing about it, at least I was on base, and could ask for help in English. I can't imagine the added embarrassment of this happening out in town, and only being able to say, "Mi Dispiace" (I'm sorry!) and running away with sick kid in tow! Love the proud parent moments, don't you?
